What to bring to Residency Interviews

Whether you’re a frequent flier or going to be hitting the open road for interview season, a large part of successfully navigating fourth year is being prepared for Residency interviews. From a former fourth year who has lived and learned (and has paid way too much for emergency toiletries at airports), here is a list of what to pack for Residency Interviews (besides your suit, personal toiletries, and personal hygiene items).

Essentials:
☐ Garment Bag
☐ Tote/satchel – if you prefer not to carry your portfolio
☐ Leather portfolio – for your CV and a useful way to organize the dozens of papers you’ll be getting throughout the day

To carry on your person:
☐ Pain reliever
☐ Feminine products (if applicable)
Tide-to-go or other stain remover
Lint Roller
Travel sized umbrella
☐ Safety pins – for emergency suit tears! (I saw it happen twice interviewing)
☐ A small brush or comb
☐ Tooth picks or travel tooth brushes (for after lunch interviews)

For just in case:
Travel size Febreeze
Travel size detergent and a small sponge – a pro tip on how to clean the inner lining of your jacket to prevent any lingering smell after back to back interviews (it happens)

If you are a light sleeper and staying in hotels:
Sleeping mask
Ear plugs
This was a big unexpected issue. You never know who your neighbors are in an airbnb or hotel.

Power Bank
